Instructional Design • eLearning Development
I design and develop practical learning experiences that help people understand, practise and apply what matters. My career has crossed instructional design, eLearning development, learning technology, training and teaching. That breadth means I can look at a project from both sides: what should the learner experience, and how can we make it work?
I have worked with subject-matter experts, academics, scriptwriters, developers and operational teams across universities, emergency services, healthcare, professional bodies and international organisations.
I am particularly interested in scenario-based learning, accessible design and creating digital learning that asks learners to think, decide and apply rather than simply click through content.
25+ years across higher education, professional bodies, public services and international organisations.
Learning objectives, storyboards, scenarios, assessment and structured learning journeys grounded in adult-learning principles.
Hands-on development in Articulate Storyline 360 and Rise 360, with accessibility, interaction design and practical usability built in.
LMS administration, digital-learning support, learning analytics and the considered use of AI to support analysis and design.
The name dates back to my time as the sole Instructional Designer for IBM's Knowledge Factory. IBM was famously known as “Big Blue” — so my independent learning-design identity became the Little Blue Train: a nod to IBM, training and learning.
Current focus
Alongside my established instructional-design and development practice, I am currently using Gemini NotebookLM within a Global Social Innovators project to support source-grounded analysis and storyboard development. AI helps speed up parts of the process; instructional judgement, accessibility review and quality assurance remain human-led.
I am interested in instructional design, eLearning development and digital-learning opportunities.
